OPT end mill: how to use
The OPT end mill is a cutter that changes the tip end of the right angle end mill into a circular arc for rounding and surface machining.
The OPT end mill cannot process a concave surface because its bottom edge is flat. However, although the convex surface is not unprocessable, it is usually not used because the processing procedure is complicated.
OPT money knife: flat processing
As for the flat part shown in the figure below, the 1 OPT vertical iron knife does not produce grooves, so the precision of the machined surface is better than that of the Guangsheng M-slot ball end mill.
Therefore, in the case where the surface roughness is specified, the arc-end milling cutter can be fed in a larger amount than the ball-end iron blade, so that the machining efficiency can be improved.
Inclined part processing
Circular end mill: inclined part processing
When machining the inclined part, as shown in the figure below, if the same arc radius is selected, the diameter of the circular head milling cutter is larger than the diameter of the ball end milling cutter, so the skew of the machined surface is small.
Cutting edge damage
The wear of the whole right-angle end mill is divided into blade wear, peripheral edge wear, boundary wear, bottom edge wear and rake face wear.
In general, the degree of blade wear and boundary wear determines the tool life. The tool is prone to boundary wear because the part of the cutting edge where the heat is separated from the air is easily oxidized.
It is prone to blade wear because the tool also bears the cutting load in both directions of the peripheral edge and the bottom edge. The bottom edge wear is decremented from the outer circumference of the tool because the bottom edge portion is provided with a core angle.
Reducing the peripheral rake angle (radial edge inclination) reduces the sharpness of the cutting, but the depth of the rake face wear is less than the boundary wear and the edge wear, which affects the tool life.
Integral ball end mill
The above-mentioned tool wear also occurs in the integral ball end mill. In addition, when a material having a low hardness is processed, the center portion of the bottom edge is abraded as shown in Fig. U). This is because the cutting speed of the center part is zero.
The cutting edge does not perform the cutting action but squeezes the workpiece. If the cutting is continued in this state, the pressing causes the blade portion to be bonded.
